Community

The School of Music holds a longstanding relationship with the community and world. We are committed to continued engagement between all those within the school, concert-goers, visiting artists and stakeholders in the arts.

We have a long tradition of partnerships with varied musical organizations within the community including the Louisville Orchestra and Chamber Music Society of Louisville, among others. Our faculty, students and alumni are often found within these organizations. We facilitate these partnerships by offering our facilities and support for their endeavors. In addition, our students are often able to attend their events at discounted costs.

The support of our faculty and students does not stop within their classrooms. We encourage community initiatives and organizations in and outside the School of Music. 

• Our outstanding Music Therapy program connects students to many agencies who require therapeutic services, which benefits both the organization and the interns involved.
• The Cardinal Marching Band performs not only for our passionate athletic teams but for the community as a whole. They have been seen worldwide with performances at the Kentucky Derby. This department often raises awareness for pediatric health with their performances.
• We also offer other programs such as the YPAS Composition Program and Weisberg String Program. Our partnerships are always growing.

Our School of Music faculty are consistently encouraged in their initiatives to engage with the community. Their work with pre-collegiate students in performances that include:

• Louisville Jazz Workshop
• University String Prep Center
• Wind Band Institute
• and more

As our involvement with the community evolves and grows, we appreciate the continued support of the university and the persistent attendance from the public in our events and performances.
