Choral Ensembles

The Collegiate Chorale

The Collegiate Chorale, the premier choral ensemble of the University of Louisville, is directed by Dr. Kent Hatteberg. It is an auditioned ensemble open to all majors that performs challenging works of a variety of styles, periods, and languages. The Chorale has been regularly selected to perform at major state, regional, and national venues, including the National Conventions of ACDA and NCCO. The Chorale frequently collaborates with the Louisville Orchestra in performances of major choral-orchestral works. For more information, please contact Dr. Hatteberg by email.

The University Chorus 

The University Chorus, directed by Dr. Won Joo Ahn, is an auditioned ensemble open to all majors that brings together singers from diverse academic and musical backgrounds. The group’s repertoire spans from Renaissance classics to contemporary compositions and world music. For more information, please contact Dr. Ahn by email.

The Cardinal Singers 

The Cardinal Singers have earned international acclaim at some of the world’s most prestigious choral festivals and competitions in Europe, Asia, and Africa. The Singers, an auditioned chamber ensemble directed by Dr. Kent Hatteberg, was founded in 1970 as an outreach organization for the university. They continue their outreach mission locally, nationally, and internationally, performing for university and local functions, offering workshops, performing at choral conventions including the National Conventions of ACDA and NCCO, and competing and performing on the international stage. The Singing Cardsmen 

The Singing Cardsmen is a non-auditioned ensemble open to students of all majors and identities who sing tenor or bass. The Cardsmen, directed by Austin Echols, is also a Recognized Student Organization and is open to faculty, staff, and friends of the university. The Cardsmen perform a wide variety of music, from the Renaissance through contemporary compositions, Broadway to Barbershop, and standards of the tenor-bass repertoire. The Women’s Chorus 

The Women’s Chorus is a non-auditioned treble ensemble open to students of all majors and identities who sing soprano or alto. Directed by Dr. Won Joo Ahn, the choir explores a wide range of choral music, from Renaissance works to contemporary compositions, fostering a vibrant and inclusive musical community. Auditions for the Collegiate Chorale, University Chorus and Cardinal Singers take place each year on the weekend before the beginning of the fall semester.
