If you are an ambitious violinist looking to develop your talents to the highest degree and forge a career for yourself in the exciting musical landscape of the 21st century, you have come to the right place.
Our studio has a culture of dedication, excellence, and mutual support. We value collaboration over competition and seek to make a difference in our society using our art. Together, we will work to strengthen the fundamentals of your playing, giving you the technique and knowledge needed to share your musical ideas successfully with audiences.
Alumni from the studio have excelled in their careers gaining access to prestigious graduate programs like the Yale School of Music, the Cincinnati Conservatory, McGill University, The University of Houston, and elsewhere. Others have gone directly into professional careers performing with symphony orchestras, becoming music teachers, building successful private studios, and working in arts administration.
Whatever your path may be in music, the UofL Violin Studio can help you achieve your goals. Below are some opportunities that I encourage all of my students to take advantage of, both at UofL and in the larger musical community.
Chamber Music:
As collaboration is a central facet of any successful career today, we heavily stress the importance of becoming an excellent ensemble player. We encourage our students to participate in chamber music as many semesters as possible and to learn as much as possible about the string chamber music repertoire.
Summer Study:
The activities that music students partake in over the summer are nearly as important as what they do during the academic year. Our studio is active throughout the country during the summer time. All of us, myself included, travel to music festivals throughout the summer months to expand our network and to learn and be inspired by new friends. In recent years, your prospective colleagues have attended top music festivals including the Aspen, Brevard, Killington, Sarasota, Wintergreen, and Youth Music Guangzhou festivals. You will be amazed by the incredible amount of growth you can make at these intense and important events.
Guest Artists:
At the University of Louisville, you will have access to world-class guest artists throughout the year. Recent guests include Paul Kantor, Professor at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, Jinjoo Cho, winner of the Indianapolis International Violin Competition and others, all visiting campus to work with you and share their expertise.
Suzuki Training:
At UofL, we are lucky to have one of the few long-term Suzuki Training programs in the United States. You can gain a nationally recognized certification free of charge, allowing you to easily build a private studio nearly anywhere in the country after graduation.
