For over 75 years, the University of Louisville School of Music has been a national and international hub for world-class music. Featuring prominent faculty and ambitious students, the school has built a world-wide reputation for student success across a variety of disciplines. The String Area at the School of Music remains a vibrant center for pedagogy and performance. Innovative curriculum and degree paths and an ongoing pursuit of excellence in performance give students the tools they need to succeed in a 21st-century career in music.
Students can explore a wide range of degrees from bachelor’s in performance to masters in music in performance or pedagogy, or flexible degrees like our bachelor of arts degrees. We also offer long-term Suzuki Teacher training in Violin and Cello through our String Preparatory Center, ensuring that our graduates have a broad range of paths open to them upon graduation.
Graduates of the School of Music are found in major symphony orchestras across the United States and are on faculty at educational institutions including conservatories, universities, and K-12 schools.

Scholarships
Scholarships are available for both undergraduate and graduate studies.

Graduate Teaching Assistantships and Service Awards are available and based on a competitive application process. Assistantships include full tuition remission, health care benefits, and stipends for weekly work between 10 and 20 hours. Service awards provide tuition assistance for work assignments within the School of Music.
