The Piano UofL Piano Festival and Elizabeth Huang International Piano Competition will be held November 14-16, 2025, at the University of Louisville School of Music. This three-day piano event features masterclasses, individual lessons, a piano competition, lectures, a faculty recital and performance opportunities for students.

We are opening a few spots for advanced adult pianists. Please see the information below on how to apply.

Festival

The Piano Festival will include masterclasses and individual lessons by faculty members, student concerts, a faculty concert and various lectures. All accepted students will receive either a lesson or participate in a public masterclass by the faculty. All masterclasses are open to the public. 

Students for the public masterclasses will be selected based on their pre-screening materials and faculty recommendation. 

Registration Fees

Pre-college and college students:

$75 if registered before October 1, 2025 |$100 after October 1, 2025.

Adult students:

$100 if registered before October 1, 2025 | $150 after October 1, 2025.
A limited number of spots are available for advanced adult pianists. If accepted, students will need to submit the tuition fee of $300. 

The Elizabeth Huang International Piano Competition

The competition is open to pianists aged 14-18, who are not currently enrolled in college. The live round will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025. 

Application deadline, including pre-selection video, October 1, 2025. 

Notification of acceptance will be made by October 15, 2025.

Pre-selection video demonstrating the applicant’s ability can be sent with the application via unlisted YouTube link or Vimeo. 

Fees

Application fee $150

All students who apply and are accepted to the competition will be automatically granted participation in the Piano Festival. 

Live Round Repertoire

Maximum 15 minutes of music from at least two different styles from the following: 

  • Baroque 

  • Classical 

  • Romantic 

  • 20th and 21st Century 

Prepared piano works and unpublished pieces are NOT allowed.
With the exception of the 20th / 21st Century pieces all works must be memorized.

Prizes

  • First Prize: $2,000, generously sponsored by Dr. Tsu Huang 

  • Second Prize: $1,000

  • Third Prize: $500, generously sponsored by The Piano Shop 

All prize winners will be required to perform at the concluding concert on Sunday, November 16th.
