In memory of Brad Rogers
October 28, 2025
“The University of Louisville School of Music is saddened by the passing of Mr. Brad Rogers, who died unexpectedly on July 7, 2025, while traveling as a staff member with the Kentucky Musicians Abroad tour in Europe. Mr. Rogers joined the UofL School of Music faculty in 2023 as the Assistant Director of Athletic Bands, following his retirement from serving as a high school band director for 42 years. He was also a proud alum of the University of Louisville, earning a Master’s of Music Education degree in 1989.
During his time at UofL, Mr. Rogers directed the UofL Community Band, the UofL Cardinal Marching Band, the UofL Pep Band, and the UofL Clarinet Choir, taught instrumental methods courses, and supervised student teachers. Brad had many achievements and awards, including his 2024 induction into the Phi Beta Mu, Psi Chapter, Hall of Fame. He was a beloved teacher who created a legacy of excellence and service in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Many tributes will be ongoing this academic year as we honor Mr. Rogers’ legacy of teaching. We are grateful to the University of Louisville Athletics for recognizing Mr. Rogers at a home football game this season, which included a presentation to his wife and daughter of a football jersey with the number “44” to celebrate his 44-year teaching career. Tributes this fall included dedicated performances by the UofL Wind Ensemble (Sunday, September 21, 3:00 p.m.) and the UofL Symphonic Band and Chamber Winds Louisville (Thursday, September 25, 7:30 p.m.). A stand-alone celebration concert will be planned for Spring 2026. Lastly, an endowment has been created for future UofL School of Music scholarships, named the Bradford Dean Rogers Music Education Fund. Our deepest condolences to the entire Rogers family, including his beautiful wife of nearly 45 years, Patricia Rogers.”
