After six years of service, Teresa Reed to step down as Dean, in June 2025
Dean Teresa Reed
Friends, what a joy it’s been to serve the UofL School of Music as Dean. Since 2019, I’ve witnessed the growth and development of our students into fine musicians and emerging professionals, and I've celebrated the achievements and successes of our faculty and staff. The past six years have brought challenges and changes, but many more blessings and wonderful memories that I'll treasure for years to come. Our choral and instrumental ensembles weathered the disruption of the pandemic to resume their performances at prestigious venues around the country and the world. Our faculty have mentored student achievers in music performance, education, therapy and composition as they themselves have modeled artistic excellence and leadership in the discipline locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. And I can’t imagine working with a better staff, who routinely go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that our operations support the education and wellbeing of our students. Through its artistic offerings and many acts of service to the campus and community, our school’s impact and reach have been tremendous, and I am so fortunate to have been a part of the story we get to tell.
As I look ahead to my own future as a member of this faculty, I am thrilled to anticipate the leadership of Interim Dean Designate Dr. Krista Wallace-Boaz. Krista currently serves as our Associate Dean, and she will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to her new role. She has deep UofL roots and is a superb musician, and an equally superb teacher, leader, and human being. Krista's decanal term begins July 1, 2025. The school will be in great hands, and I am excited to see what the future holds. I thank you for your kindness and generosity to the School of Music during the period of my service. The School of Music and the University of Louisville have a bright future, and I look forward to joining with you in continued support of the important work that we do.
