Sarah Bowerman is a trumpet major from Richmond, Kentucky. She decided to join the School of Music because she wanted to experience the opportunities that the big city had to offer. She gives a shout-out to Dr. Reese Land’s teaching as part of her reason for choosing UofL. Sarah is double-majoring with a B.A. Music with a Brass Emphasis and a B.A. in Mathematics.

When asked about her favorite learning experience, she mentions improving as a trumpet player and how it gives her insight into how to become a better educator. She’s been learning tactics for improving weak spots and says this makes it easier to instruct students dealing with similar issues.

After graduation, Sarah wishes to continue teaching music, as she has taught lessons and marching bands in the area for several years. Marching with the Madison Scouts this past summer reinforced her love for marching arts, and she wants to continue in that area of music. Sarah says, “I am also interested in pursuing arts/music administration to continue being involved in the music scene in this wonderful city.”

Your donations to the scholarships at the School of Music make a difference for many students like Sarah. She says that it has been a huge factor in helping to achieve her goals. These scholarships fund projects like Sarah’s summer tour with the Drum Corps International and general support throughout the college journey.
